Dr. Das was born in a middle class joint family. He lived in village
Simra during his childhood. He came to Madhubani after completing his
primary education in the village. He got university education in
Darbhanga and Patna after passing Matriculation in 1st division from
GMSS High School, Madhubani in 1943. He completed his Post Graduation
(Hindi) in high second class from Patna University in 1952. He completed
his Ph. D. under direction of Acharya Devendra Nath Sharma from Patna
University. He researched on "Hindi Padyanatak".
Dr. Shyamanand Lal Das remained lecturer/ professor in Ram Krishna
College, Madhubani from 1952 to 1991 (Hindi Deptt.). He was promoted to
University Professor in last some years of his tenure. He remained Head
of Deptt of Graduation & Post Graduation classes of the college for
many years. He got extension of his tenure for two years from 1989 to
1991. Dr. Das brought renowned scholars on one stage on the occasion of
Tulsi Jayanti and annual function of Hindi Sahitya Parishad every year
during his tenure. He was editor of the college magazine "Vidyapati".
Dr. Shyamanand Lal Das' interest in literature had begun during his
school life in guidance of Pandit Satya Narayan Singh "Verma", a
literary figure and a well qualified teacher of Hindi,. Later it
flourished in contact of Prof. Jagannath Prasad Mishra, Dr. Dharmendra
Brahmchari, Dr. Vishwnath Prasad, Acharya Nalin Vilochan Sharma, Acharya
Devendra Nath Sharma etc. In 1959, during the literary tourism, he got
company of Sumitra Nandan Pant, Surya Kant Tripathi "Nirala", Smt.
Mahadevi Verma, Dr. Hajari Prasad Dwivedi, Dr. Ram Kumar Verma, Pt.
Vishwanth Prasad Mishra, Sh. Bhagwati Charan Verma etc. and literary-
cultural views and opinions were exchanged.

Dr. Shyamanand Das is a lifetime member of Bhartiya Hindi Parishad (Head
Quarter- Allahabad University) since 1973. He was honoured as a literary
figure by Bharat Vikas Parishad in 2007.
Dr. Das was attached with informal adult education conducted by Bharat
Gyan-Vigyan Samiti (1991-1995). He trained volunteers by visiting towns
and villages of Bihar. He participated in the National Literary Meet in
Delhi in 1995. He was honoured by District Magistrate of Madhubani for
his significant contribution in literacy in Madhubani District. He is a
lifetime member of Madhubani Red Cross. He is contributing his best to
literary-cultural institutions of Madhubani.
Dr. Das is a born patriot with progressive views. He participated in the
freedom movement of 1942 and onwards. While a college teacher, he was an
active member of the University Teachers' Union. Along with a number of
colleagues, he courted arrest twice and was kept in Bhagalpur Camp Jail
and Hazaribag Central Jail respectively.
It will not be but of point to mention that Dr. Das has a happy family
life. He is father of five sons and a daughter. All are well educated.
The eldest son Shri Surendra Ranjan Das is a leading advocate of
Madhubani district bar and has been recently appointed Govt. Pleader
(G.P.) of Madhubani
In short, Dr. Das is a precious diamond of our society. May God live him
long and healthy life.
